Day 27 - The Presidential Fitness Award

Has someone ever asked you for help and you just kind of said...okay, in a minute, or next week, or during the winter break or summer? I did that..sort of, to my oldest son. He needed help with the Presidential Fitness Award and after asking him what I need to do..and him not being specific with me..I kind of just blew it off to a we'll look into it next week, next month, next year. I went back to concentrating on all the stuff I had to do..all my volunteer stuff, my friends and my life. Zip forward two years later and my son is getting awards for Perfect Attendance, Straight As during middle school, CJSF and a specialty subject award. An award for everything, except the..you guessed it..The Presidential Fitness Award. It wouldn't be so bad, except I used to teach Fitness to adults and kids.

So, I decided to help my youngest son achieve that goal. I know he wants to get fit, I need to get off the couch so it's kind of like a win-win if you ask me. So...we started by practicing the coffee blender move, then on to the zombie, running man, shuffle, the robot..yes, the robot and then planks followed by some streching. I know the next three years are going to be tough for him, trying to follow his big brother's shadow. But, he's special and God made him unique. He made him smart with a kind heart, empathetic and interested in other people's needs. He may not get straight As like his brother..he's kind of lacking in motivation when it comes to studies..but give him a cell phone and he'll figure it out in 5 minutes or less. Oops..side tracked there..anyway..the best thing I can do as a mother is to be there when he needs me and if that means helping him achieve a goal his brother hasn't..I'm going to help and this time, it won't be next week, next month or next year, it's going to start today. Now, if only I can come up with moves for the icee dance, we'll be all set.

Until tomorrow, don't put your volunteer needs over your children's needs. I've been doing that ever since my son was born and became the President of the Mother's Center. I guess I've had an awakening during this do-nothing summer and that means family comes first, the other stuff can wait.
